There’s A McDonald’s In The UK That’s Owned By The Queen

It’s a common misconception that the Queen owns all of Britain’s swans. Her Majesty certainly owns mute swans, but only exercises her right of ownership over swans on certain parts of the River Thames. However one of the many other things she owns is arguably a much more valuable asset.

Yes, the Queen owns a McDonald’s.

According to Business Insider, Banbury Gateway Maccies in Oxfordshire is located on royally-owned land – meaning the reigning monarch has dibs on it.

The branch is the only one of the fast food giant’s restaurants on the Crown Estate, in this instance situated in a shopping park. And from the looks of it the store is definitely fit for royalty, with self-order kiosks and free-to-use Samsung tablets.

What do you reckon she tends to order? Good ol’-fashioned Big Mac? One of those fuck-off boxes of chicken nuggets? Or something at the fancier end of the menu, like one of those ‘Great Tastes of the World’ dealios? The mind boggles.

Oh, it’s probably something with ‘royale’ in the name, isn’t it?

There are some pretty nice Maccies, mind. It might not be owned by a member of the Royal Family, but one outlet in Shropshire has features which date back to the 12th century and comes with stained glass windows, exposed stone walls and wooden balconies.

I can imagine a knight sitting at one of these tables, chowing down on a Big Mac and fries.

Imagine rocking up here after a night of irresponsible drinking; you’d think you’d time-travelled or something.

Wowza, I wish one near me looked like that. Then again, I wish I owned a Maccies and could issue royal decrees involving constant supplies of the lesser-spotted McRib. And absolutely nothing involving szechuan sauce.

Hey, it’s an ambition.
